San Quintin, Mexico:
Few Anglers Present But Bottom Fish Limits Are Caught By Most Boats

April 24, 2005, Sarai Garcia, Don Eddie's Landing, San Quintin, Baja California, Mexico fishing:

Days are improving in the San Quintin sportfishing area. In the afternoons the temperature is reaching the high 70s, and the fishing water temperatures ranged from 59 to 62 degrees. The winds have died down and it is very calm now at San Quintin. The days are chilly in the mornings and sunny and warm in the afternoons.

Despite the good fishing weather in San Quintin, the anglers are not flowing in this week like previous years, mainly because the weather forecasters in the areas of Los Angeles and San Diego kept predicting rains in Southern California and all the way down to Baja.

But here on San Quintin bay we did not get a single drop of rain; forecasters really have us under their thumb. The outings during the week were reduced to three or four a day on the bay, and 12 to 14 on the weekends, all with good catches.

Arturo Saenz, and his friends Doug Hope and George Drimilis, from Whittier Calif., stayed at Don Eddie's Landing for the weekend, and went out fishing at San Quintin and returned every single day with limits of huge lingcod, rockcod, sheephead, and some salmon grouper.

Also. Arturo Saenz and his group came in with 2 small Yellowtail, 12 and 14 lbs. They fished mostly the 240, and 180 spots. Bottom fish this year are very plentiful, more than other years at this time in the season, and like always the Humboldt squid are always present. We are expecting the good fishing weather to prevail and that the days will become warmer. Our San Quintin fishing tournaments at Don Eddie's are July 2nd and 3rd, and September 3rd and 4th.
