San Quintin, Mexico:
Yellowtail Caught Aboard The Fishing Charter Boat "Offshore II"

Feb. 26-27, 2005, Kelly Catian, K&M Offshore Sportfishing, San Quintin, Baja California, Mexico:

My partner Monte Kotur and I took a little time off from all of the boat stuff, importing parts, permits, insurance, etc., and went fishing out of San Quintin on Friday and Saturday.

We got out late on Friday but got into some fun bass fishing on the iron. We also got a bunch of big Humboldt squid.

On Saturday, Joel Spidel and his friends fished with Capt. Oscar on the Offshore II. They got into some good San Quintin yellowtail fishing action down by El Socorro while throwing iron. The guys landed five San Quintin yellowtail and busted a few off in the kelp. They also got some giant squid and lots of sandbass and rockfish.

Both Monte and I, and Oscar and Joel, had white seabass around the boat and we both lost at least a couple of big fish! They've been hanging around the kelp and stopping a fish over 50 pounds from getting there is not so easy. The sea surface water temperature off San Quintin was 59-60 degrees, and clean outside. Inshore was a little brown from runoff but it didn't seem to bother the fish. The wind was calm in morning and 8-10 knots in afternoon, and the swell was small out of west.
