Dec. 1-7, 2005, Benjamin Ortega, Solmar Fleet, Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico Fishing:

Marlin fishing continued to offer good to very good action in Cabo San Lucas waters this past week.

Total catch by Solmar Sportfishing boats included 49 striped marlin, 35 released, 42 dorado, 35 yellowfin tuna and two sierra.

Mr. Hoffman, fishing on El Torito, caught and released four striped marlin, along with five yellowfin tuna to 30 pounds. He fished both live mackerel and sardines at the Finger Bank, currently the hottest fishing spot in all Cabo San Lucas sportfishing waters during the past two weeks.

A triple-striped marlin catch was made by Brian O'Neil of Oregon, who used live mackerel to take those marlin, all of them released, and a combination of feather lures to take two dorado to 40 pounds and three small yellowfin while fishing on the Cabo San Lucas charter boat Solmar I at both the Golden Gate and Finger banks.

Los Angeles angler Jim Giles was among others making multi-catches on marlin at the Finger Bank. He brought three to release, along with a pair of dorado while fishing the Solmar VII.

Kevin Ryan of Miami fished the San Lucas VI off the Faro Viejo and settled for three yellowfin tuna and two dorado to 35 pounds, all on live mackerel.

Michael Oleksyn of Phoenix released all three of the marlin he hooked on live mackerel, fishing the Solmar IV off Punta Palmilla.

Steve Richardson of Calexico, Calif., didn't catch any marlin, but he said he was pleased with the three dorado and four yellowfin he nabbed, fishing the Solmar off the Old Lighthouse at Cabo San Lucas.

The Golden Gate produced a pair of marlin, both released, to Mr. Bonner of Huston, Texas. Both of his fish were taken on a red and orange lure while fishing aboard the Solmar II

Solmar Fleet's Cabo San Lucas sportfishing captain of the week was Federico Marron of the Solmar I, whose customers released 18 of the 23 marlin they hooked, along with 24 dorado, 21 yellowfin and two sierra.
