DOUBLE-DIGIT DORADO FISHING WITH THE HOTEL SERENIDAD'S CAPT. ALEX

Oct. 18, 2004, Gary Thomas, Mulege, Mexico Fishing Trip Report:

My Wife Peggy and I returned today from Mulege where we fished with Capt. Alex from the Hotel Serenidad 10/15 & 10/16. Both days we fished 12 to 18 miles east of San Marcos.

The 15th we caught 10 dorado to 22 lbs. trolling feathers. The hot lure on the 15th was a six shooter jet head in mexican flag. We caught the 22#r on a strip bait that we cut from the belly of 1 of the fish that we kept.

The 16th we caught 14, all trolling six shooter jets. The hot color was pink/white. We couldn't buy a fish on a strip.

At times there were schools of 20 - 30 dorado swarming around the boat but they wouldn't touch a strip.

Both days we fished Mulege Capt. Alex's panga. Best dorado fishing I've ever encountered in Mulege in October. About half the fish we caught both days were 5#s or less. The other half were 6 - 15 #s. Gary Thomas

Mulege water temp was 80 - 81 both days. Light chop going to flat on the 15th & flat calm all day on the 16th, 1 of those glorious Mulege days.

We were done & on the beach by 11:30 a.m. both days. Hotel open & operating as usual & Mr. Johnson optimistic on his legal issues. He is building some very nice enclosed storage spaces behind his duplexes for boat/vehicle storage.
