EAST CAPE HOTEL CHARTER FISHING BOATS RETURNING WITH LIMITS OF DORADO

Dec. 23, 2004, Chuck Meredith, Los Barriles, East Cape fishing, Baja California Sur, Mexico.

The wind quit for only two days here, then came howling back to it's normal East Cape winter fishing conditions.

East Cape hotel cruisers went out fishing and brought back limits of dorado (also dolphinfish), and a few striped marlin releases, off Punta Pescadero 5 to 10 miles. No big Whoop, compared to Cabo.

People seem to forget that the winter trade winds blow down the Sea of Cortez from the North, and then actually stack up the waves at the Gordo Banks. The contrasting seas actually mix here, and when you pass over and through them, you come out of the fog-type rough water condition, to a calm and actually "quiet water" on the San Jose del Cabo side of the Gordo Banks. It's simply amazing, every time I cross through it!! And, it's just the opposite, if you go North toward East Cape from San Jose del Cabo to Los Barriles, in the winter months.

With the fish being caught in Cabo San Lucas now, that is where one wants to be. Many East Cape cruisers from Los Barriles have already moved down there, to Cabo San Lucas to fish. Many Los Barriles Mexicans are now out of work, and must now travel to Cabo San Lucas for work as deckhands and captains, in order to make a living during the winter. It has always been this way. Just life for Mexican fisherman here at East Cape.
