CABO CHARTERS AVERAGING ABOUT A MARLIN
PER DAY ON SLOW-TROLLED LIVE BAITS

Nov. 16, 2005, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Cabo San Lucas sport fishing, Baja California Sur, Mexico Report:

Most Cabo San Lucas sportfishing boats are averaging a striped marlin per boat day fished, with a few of the luckier boats catching multiple fish on some days and nothing on others.

The "Fish Cabo I" had two 3 striper release days but blanked on the other 4 days.

The "Fish Cabo" reported 4 striper releases for 4 fishing days.

High Cabo San Lucas charter fishing boat for the Gaviota Sportfishing Fleet was the "Gaviota V", reporting 10 stripers for 7 fishing days.

Overall counts for the Gaviota Fleet reflected 1 small blue marlin released, 59 stripers, (50 released), 3 wahoo and 28 yellowfin tuna for 64 fishing days.

Cabo San Lucas climate had 69 nights to 92 daytime highs, northwest breezes during the day, sunny and warm, Water temperatures from 74 to 79, with a distinct north/south break that ran from the beach above San Cristobal across the Jaime Bank and on, with cooler water to the north.

The best fishing area at Cabo San Lucas was the Golden Gate for the stripers, with most fish taken on the drift or slow trolling live bait. Live bait was best and the mackerel were the preferred billfish snacks. The live bait supply was excellent at Cabo San Lucas, even over the full moon.
