STRIPED MARLIN COUNT NEARLY DOUBLES
FOR SOLMAR FLEET SPORTFISHING BOATS

Nov. 3-9, 2005, Benjamin Ortega, Solmar Fleet, Cabo San Lucas fishing, Baja California Sur, Mexico:

Solmar Fleet's Cabo San Lucas striped marlin catch nearly doubled that of the previous week, with 34 taken by the charter boat fleet, along with a fair bite on dorado and the first late fall take of giant squid.

Top striper catch was three caught by Nick Doherty of Phoenix, Ariz., who fished the Solmar IV off the Golden Gate Bank.

Orlando, FL angler Stewart released a pair of Cabo San Lucas striped marlin and added a single dorado to his take. He fished the San Lucas IV five miles off the Faro Viejo.

Illinois angler Greg Codaret also made an impressive striper catch, releasing two, while adding four giant squid to 50 pounds plus a pair of dorado weighing 25 and 40 pounds. He also fished the Golden Gate Bank aboard the Solmar.

A 146-pound striper and a 37-pound dorado were taken on a black, purple and silver lure by Joe Mitchell of San Francisco. He fished the Golden Gate Bank aboard the Cabo San Lucas charter fishing boat Solmar III.

Don Rammerzell of Chicago nabbed two dorado to 25 pounds and a single 23-pound yellowfin tuna on live mackerel while fishing the Solmar VII of Punta Palmilla.

Voss Childress of Houston trolled a green and white lure off the Old Lighthouse, and caught three dorado to 45 pounds on the Solmar I.

Captain of the week honors went to Javier Abaroa of the Cabo San Lucas sportfishing boat Solmar, whose passengers in six outings caught 18 striped marlin, 12 of them released, 18 yellowfin tuna, 15 dorado and four giant squid.

The total Cabo San Lucas sportfishing catch for the week by Solmar boats included 34 striped marlin, 22 released, 37 dorado, 20 yellowfin tuna and four giant squid.
