JUST ONE BONITA CAUGHT DURING VERY
POOR FISHING TRIP TO SAN FRANCISQUITO

Oct. 3, 2005, John Whitaker, San Francisquito fishing, Baja California, Mexico:

I just got back from San Francisquito. It was the worst fishing that I have ever experienced there in 20 years. One bonita hookup on the surface iron, and that was it for two days.

I got enough small bottom fish to have dinner for our group of nine on the first night. All was working well at the camp. San Francisquito weather was fair with clouds and some light rain. The water was very warm and clear so diving was good but no cabrilla were seen during our dives. Some small barracuda were caught on flies at first light. There was no bait around at all. It was a fun time despite the fishing.

The water temperature was very up and down. It was 82 degrees on the beach when we got there, and after the swell came in it dropped to 74, and then got back up to 80 on the last day. It was very comfortable diving water. The current was really screaming. We stayed in the cabins and ate in the kitchen. We had fish the first night and a very good Mexican dinner the second. They were still not making ice and the freezer was broken.
