GOOD BAJA FISHING FOR CALICO BASS AT PUNTA ROSARITO

Jan. 6, 2006, John Carroll, Punta Rosarito, Baja California, Mexico:

I just retuned Monday from points south. We started at "The Wall," Punta Rosarito, Baja California, Mexico, trying to surf but only got a couple sessions in as it was to big for this point break. The fishing was world class for Calico Bass from the beach in the surf on the high tides in the morning and right at sunset. No fish were caught under two pounds and most were three to four pounds. We landed several in the five to six pound class with one around seven pounds. The window of opportunity was about two hours in the morning and about a half hour or so at dusk. No less than 13 fish every morning were caught. This may not sound like much but we fished six to ten pound tackle and some fish were pulled on by my five year olds. It really was world class Calico bass fishing and all in front of our camp 30 yards away. This went on for three days in a row. The Halibut fishing and diving did not happen as it was so rough.
