LOS CABOS PANGAS FIND SLOW FISHING CONDITIONS

Dec. 18, 2005, Bob Grimes, San Jose del Cabo fishing, Baja California Sur, Mexico:

Fishing at San Jose del Cabo has been very slow. During the past week, there has been wind on most days, and the few pangas that have gone fishing have not caught much. Dave and I had some days of fishing on our kayak in front of our house west of Punta Gorda, and we caught a pair of small sierra. Dave has also been diving, and he has seen nothing big, just some small pargo, jack crevalle, and other small fish.

Last night a panguero told me that they have pretty much given up on the Gordo Banks and Iman for the time being, and they are catching a lot of real small tuna in the area of Punta Ballena, just east of Cabo San Lucas. This morning I watched about 7 pangas heading west from La Playita, in the direction of Punta Ballena, and none came east. Inshore fishing is still slow.
