IMPROVED FISHING FOR LOCAL YELLOWFIN TUNA AND SOME DORADO

Nov. 26, 2005, Bob Lewis, San Jose del Cabo sport fishing, Baja, Mexico:

This week brought better fishing for most in the San Jose del Cabo area. The holiday has brought a lot of visitors and I have my son in town too. We fished on my boat Dos Gueros Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday targeting Tuna.

The San Jose del Cabo sportfishing fleet is focused around Cabeza de Ballena and also just outside the Cabo San Lucas marina and are picking up lots of school size yellowfin tuna with occasional Dorado mixed in.

Fishing on Friday we ran all the way to Iman bank, about 30 miles from Cabo San Lucas, because we heard there was less boat pressure and better quality. We got lucky and landed a 50 pounder using dead sardines with lots of chum, along with 4 smaller fish.

The big one took 1 hour on 25 pound line with a Trinidad 16. Water temperature at San Jose del Cabo was 79 degrees with some wind from the north making conditions tough some days. Air temperature is around 80 to 85 and overall fishing conditions are good. I have heard there are lots of marlin on Pacific side around the Finger bank. Also heard of a couple of Wahoo landed around Vinorama but no volume.
