LA PLAYITA PANGAS FISHING WHEN WEATHER PERMITS

Sept. 12, 2004, Jim Tolbert, Baja Books & Maps, San Jose del Cabo, Baja California Sur, Mexico:

Just got back from checking pangas again (checked earlier at 11 a.m.) at La Playita, not much happening today, we are starting to get a little rain and it is blowing pretty good and this has nothing to do with Javier which is still way south.

We are all keeping our eyes on this one. The storm is expected to reach hurricane strength early in the week and the present tracking shows the storm passing the tip of Baja by Saturday. Anglers headed to Los Cabos should monitor the weather before heading down. Time to stock up on gas, water, and cerveza!

San Jose del Cabo will probably start getting some weather from it by Thursday (high surf & rain). Eric Brictson says he may start moving his boats off the beach by the middle of the week depending on how it tracks. Tomas just shook his head.

Of course, it is September and prime time for chubascos.

Not much San Jose del Cabo fishing action earlier in the week as we were still experiencing some high surf from the passing of TS Isis. With the road to La Playa reopened Monday, most of the panga fleet was back in the water by midweek and good catches of yellowfin, some wahoo, a few dorado and blue and black marlin were reported.

By the way the tuna sure tastes good! Just had a large cooler full dropped off from buddy in Rancho Leonero!
