MOTHERSHIP ERIK TAKES DIVERS TO MIDRIFF ISLANDS

May 29-June 2, 2005, Dana Kerby, Baja Sportfishing, Inc., Erik, San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico Panga Mothership Fishing Report:

The eighth trip on the Erik for the 2005 San Felipe fishing season was a charter by Al Gage and George Wellenstein out of the Phoenix area, and most of the people on board were diving, with just a few conventional fishermen.

Because the divers wanted to stay in certain areas, the boat didn't travel to a lot of locations. The Erik did spend a lot of time in Bahia Refugio on the north end of Isla Angel de la Guarda, then went to Punta Diablo, then to Las Animas, back to Refugio, then to an area near Bahia de los Angeles.

On Wednesday evening the Erik traveled to San Luis Gonzaga, but the wind was high and it was VERY rough, so no one fished or dove on Thursday. The winds were estimated in the 50 m.p.h. range at times, with gusts higher than that.

Fish caught on this trip out of San Felipe were: Yellowtail, 140, many in the 35 lb. range and higher; Cabrilla, 51, most in the 12 to 20 lb range; Sheephead, 5; and 30 miscellaneous fish.
