FISHING BOAT OUT OF PUERTO PENASCO CATCHES A SEA SNAKE

Feb. 10, 2005, Mike Auditore, Rocky Point (Puerto Penasco), Mexico Fishing Report:

My fishing boat El Gato Blanco with a crew of three headed out from Rocky Point in bumpy seas at 7:30 a.m. We tried three different fishing spots to make bait, and on the third we made plenty, two-dozen horse mackerels and three dozen sardines.

We then headed out to a fishing reef about 50 miles south of Rocky Point. The seas calmed down the further we went. I was able to run at 35 miles per hour the last 15 miles or so.

We arrived at the destination 1/2 hour before high tide, and dropped anchor about 700 feet from my waypoint. We had no fishing action for at least an hour except a small goldspotted bass.

Then a white seabass hit which we landed. It was about 20 pounds or so.

Two other boats arrived. One anchored up and the other drift fished.

The boat that anchored up caught only a sea snake all day, while the other boat pulled up a Black Sea Bass about 60 pounds, a few White Seabass around 15-20 pounds, and a few Goldspotted Bass.

We ended up With two White Seabass and three Goldspotted bass. The biggest White Seabass was over 30 pounds. That was the largest I've ever caught.

We had a wager with the Arce De Noel, Lloyd Robinettes boat, on who would catch the first, most, and biggest fish. Needless to say, they were skunked and we were treated to dinner drinks and the purse. There were a lot of long faces at the dinner table. They had five men on board to our three. The water temperatures were around 60 degrees and seas were calm, making for a smooth ride home to Rocky Point.
