HUNGRY PELICANS ABUNDANT AND INTERFERING WITH FISHING LINES

Jan. 9, 2005, Arthur Pina, Rocky Point, Mexico Fishing Report:

Along with a friend who was on his maiden voyage with his new boat, I went fishing in Rocky Point on New Year's Eve weekend. The fishing was bad. You could tell by the way the birds were acting. You could not even get the bait in the water without hooking a pelican. And then the fun starts, unhooking Mr. Pelican. We finally got smart and started throwing bait on the other side of the boat to keep them busy.

There was not a bait fish to be had. A couple of other boats went fishing at the 51 mile reef out of Rocky Point and came back with some nice snapper, but not many. But we sure had a beautiful Saturday fishing at Rocky Point. The ocean was like glass and we were able to try fishing at different reefs, but they were also empty. We'll try her again in a couple of weeks.
