COMMERCIAL SHRIMP HARVEST LIMITS BOOST LOCAL SPORTFISHING

Oct. 8, 2004, Stuart Burnett, Rocky Point Fishing Improvement:

Fishing's not quite like Baja and we don't see the same action as they do further south, but we manage to get into some pretty good fishing at times. The fishing has improved tremendously over the past couple of years. I think it's too early to say that it's because of keeping the shrimpers out of the Biosphere Reserve (that imaginary line drawn between Puerto Penasco and San Felipe), but this has certainly been a contributing factor. When you've got shrimpers constantly raking the bottom with their trawl boards and destroying the habitat, it takes it toll. But things are looking better.
