GOOD MIXED SPORTFISHING CATCH WITH CAPT. VALENTE MURILLO

July 21, 2006, Bill Currie, Good summer fishing with Hotel Oasis Capt. Valente Murillo Davis, Loreto, Baja California Sur, Mexico:

Here's the latest from Loreto. The sportfishing water temperature was 88 degrees. The air temperature was 104 degrees. Bait was plentiful, mackerel, and was also for sale at the Loreto marina. Sardina bait was available but must be made by net.

The road was excellent all the way down. There were no checkpoints going down on Thursday, July 13th, but there were four going northbound yesterday, July 20th. Gas was no problem. It cost about the same as here.

We fished on the boat Katy with Captain Valente Murillo Davis of the Hotel Oasis.

On fishing day 1, we went to Coronado Island and caught 3 cabrilla up to 15 pounds, and 1 yellowtail of 20 pounds. Then we went on to San Bruno north of Loreto and caught 2 dorado up to 25 pounds and 1 sailfish a juvenile of 70 pounds.

Our fishing day 2 started off at San Bruno and we caught 2 dorado up to 30 pounds, and then we went north about 5 miles and caught 1 blue marlin, a juvenile of 75 pounds, on 20 pound test line. The blue marlin was caught by 6 year old Gloria Maria Benziger, daughter of the owner of the Oasis Hotel in Loreto. It was Gloria Maria's first fish ever caught. She did have a little help from me, her padrino.

On Loreto fishing day 3, we went to Punta Lobos and caught 2 cabrilla up to 15 pounds.
