SPORTFISHING WATERS WARM TO 83 TO 85 DEGREES

July 9-15, 2005, Patty Zapata, Hotel Oasis, Loreto, Mexico Fishing Report:

It seems that finally water temperature is beginning to change in the Loreto fishing vacation area, and now it is between 83 F and 85 F.

Mostly at San Bruno is where Loreto fishing boat captains are trying to look for Dorado, as the water seems to be warmer there.

Last week the place where Peter and Matt Faber found Marlin was east of Carmen Island. Squid did not allow them to catch any bait. They were a little disappointed because they couldn't go too far, but they luckily found 2 Marlin that were satisfied with squid and they were just playing around the boat instead of baiting. They waited and persisted, and after an hour 40 minutes they caught one of 145 and another 110 pounds. Abraham Fernandez Davis was their Captain.

It took almost 2 hours for David Foley and his son to get a 130 pound Marlin into the boat after a good fight. Loreto charter fishing Capt. Martin Davis Castro went out one hour and a half from Loreto east from Coronado Island.

Fred George couldn't found any bait at all. Four mackerels were their only support, and still they were trolling hoping to find Dorado. They found a Marlin and a Sailfish that didn't want to be caught. After an hour fighting with them, they caught first the Sailfish, and the exhausted Mr. George ask Poncho Susarrey, his captain to help him with the Marlin. Good fishing considering they were out there with only 4 mackerels!

Domingo de la Serna went out with Isidro Mendoza as his Loreto sport fishing captain 15 miles east from Coronado Island where they found a big school of Marlin and Sailfish. The best catch was a 155-pound Marlin and they caught it after an hour and 45 minutes.

The best story this week was a 41-pound Dorado and an 89-pound Sailfish, caught by a 13-year-old boy! His name is Cal Morris from Santa Cruz, California, and he refused help. His father Maclyn Morris was surprised that the fish were biting only with his son and he couldn't get anything. Their captain was Abraham Fernandez and they went 35 miles east from Coronado Island. Obviously this proud father helped his son at the end to bring this big fish into the boat. Lots of fun and sun for this brave fishermen! We hope by next week we will be sharing with you a different story about Dorado.
