FISHING WITH CAPT. GILBERTO OF ARTURO'S SPORTFISHING

June 4, 2005, Al Fiore, Loreto, Mexico Fishing Trip Report:

My son, Matt Fiore, and I fished out of Loreto May 30, 31, and June 1, 2005, with Capt. Gilberto of Arturo's Sportfishing.

On Monday with caught a 23 lb dorado, a 25 lb dorado and a sailfish all about 40 miles northeast of Loreto.

On Tuesday we bottom fished inshore with little luck, east and also south of Isla Carmen, for one 15 lb yellowtail and many pinto bass.

On Wednesday we motored through heavy fog to try our luck catching dorado. Upon emerging from the fog 30 miles out we sighted many marlin and sailfish but were unable hook up. We searched for dorado all day but none were found despite the constant efforts of Gilberto.

Other Loreto sportfishing boats in the area also reported no dorado, just a small yellowfin tuna.

On the way in, we caught a large sailfish and hooked and lost a small marlin. Each day we saw awesome schools of hundreds of porpoise jumping and porpoising, of course. We found curious sea turtles, flying fish, sharks, and mantas. What a beautiful display of nature! The fishing could have been a little better, but I got some great photos and enough fish to eat for us and Gilberto.
