FISHING TRIP TO MARTIN VERGUDO'S BEACH RESORT

Oct. 17, 2005, Rich Torkington, East Cape fishing, Mexico:

My son John and I enjoyed a day of fishing Friday 10/14 in the East Cape. In one day of fishing out of Martin Verdugo's in Los Barriles, we found the yellowfin tuna action between La Ribera and Cabo Pulmo continuing lively. We were fortunate to hook into four 25 to 35 pounders and a 35 pound amberjack in only about 3 hours of fishing, using chunk squid for bait.

Our captain's named was Alfredo, fishing off a super panga. He did a very good job for us.

We chose to terminate the tuna fishing action at midday due to our cargo limitations on the plane, and to leave some fish in the water. But I left pleased knowing that my 15 year old son experienced what a decent-sized tuna feels like as it tears off the drag.

We trolled the rest of the day for marlin without success, sighting a tail fin once. We also witnessed a half-dozen boats lined up a few miles off La Ribera pulling in pargo by hand.
