EAST CAPE ANGLERS CATCHING PLENTY OF TUNA IN SOUTHERN BAJA WATERS

July 29-Aug. 4, 2005, Chris Moyers, East Cape Smoke House, East Cape fishing, Baja Sur, Mexico:

Charters 442. Anglers 1,308. Total Fish 1,985. Fish/Charter 4.49. Fish/Angler 1.52. Catch including released fish: Blue Marlin 28. Striped Marlin 216. Black Marlin 2. Sailfish 82. Dorado 152. Yellowfin Tuna 1,211. Pargo 16. Wahoo 14. Roosterfish 19. Water Temperature 82-89. Air Temperature 102-74. Seas calm in the a.m. with slight seas developing in the p.m.

The billfish bite at East Cape remains pretty happening with plenty of Striped Marlin being landed, as well as aa good number of Blue Marlin.

Sailfish made their appearance felt too.

The Yellowfin Tuna bite remained HOT, and the Dorado bite picked up some.

East Cape has seen an air temperature with a range of 74-102. It actually rained on East Cape while out on the water during the Bisbee's for the second straight year.

East Cape fishing water temperatures are optimal with a range of 83-89 degrees. There's been very little wind to speak of except for some occasional afternoon breezes.

Bait-wise, we've seen mackerel, caballito, sardines, and some ballyhoo. Those willing to make bait have an abundance of skipjack and white bonita swimming with the Porpoise and Yellowfin on the outside.

The overall catch rate among all species of billfish is about 25%.

Regarding Striped Marlin, the bite remained consistent once again.

The Sailfish were spread out as well with anglers reporting hookups to the north off Punta Pescadero, out towards the 88, as well as off Isla Cerralvo. Limited success was also reported straight off Los Barriles, and to the south off La Ribera, Punta Colorada, Punta Arena, Las Barracas, Las Cruces, Cabo Pulmo, and Los Frailes.

The Dorado bite picked up slightly and ended the reporting week with an overall catch rate of about 12 percent.

The yellowfin tuna bite is still pretty much going off. Anglers are enjoying an overall catch rate of about 93 percent, either straight off Los Barrilles or to the south between the waters of La Ribera, Punta Colorada, Punta arena, Los Cerritos, Cabo Pulmo, and El Far. It's pretty much, find the porpoise and repeatedly troll through and catch Tuna.
