OOPS! A SKUNKED FISHING BOAT FISHING DAY AT EAST CAPE'S LA RIBERA

March 18, 2005, Jorge Bergin, La Ribera fishing, Baja California Sur, East Cape, Mexico:

I got skunked while fishing yesterday, on Thursday, 10 miles of fishing inshore early, using everything in the box. Now I know why:

1. A big cold water current came over to East Cape from the Pacific side and pulled us down from 76 to 69 degrees in just two days.

2. The current brought with it bizillions of pelagic red crabs to East Cape.

So the combination was cold water scattering the bait and the fish, and fish full of crabs. Some marlin have been caught in East Cape fishing, but generally speaking the bite is off. All the private charter pros have gotten skunked the last couple of days, inside and out.

Two dead common or white side dolphin were found on East Cape beaches here about a mile apart. Maybe because of nighttime gill netting.
