CABO STRIPED MARLIN FISHING IMPROVES
TO ABOUT 2 FISH PER OUTING

May 20, 2005, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Cabo San Lucas fishing, Baja California Sur, Mexico:

Striped marlin fishing in the Cabo San Lucas vacation area spiraled upward this week, with the boats averaging a couple of billfish per boat day and offering the anglers some very good action. The Gaviota Fleet, reporting for 37 fishing days reflected 72 stripers, (59 released) 1 sailfish released, 5 dorado, 3 wahoo and 9 yellowfin tuna. "Fish Cabo", reporting in for 5 Cabo San Lucas fishing days, reflected 7 stripers released, 4 dorado and 4 yellowfin tuna and the "Fish Cabo I", (formerly the Juanita VIII) reported for 4 fishing days, reflecting 11 stripers released, 3 dorado and 1 yellowfin tuna.

Cabo San Lucas weather had 67 degree nights to 96 daytime high's and still very breezy from the Pacific side but calm on the Sea of Cortez side.

The Pacific current pushed through to the east, cooling off the 95 and 1150 spots. However on a line due east of Cabo San Lucas and inside, including the Gordo Banks and above, fishing water remained at 73-77 degrees.

The best fishing area was at Destiladeras, above and outside the Gordo Banks, with lots of feeders and sleeper action. Artificials were working well, especially those in the mackerel colors and the live bait drop-backs were nearly an instant bite.
