SOLMAR BOATS AVERAGING ABOUT A MARLIN PER OUTING

July 28, 2004, Benjamin Ortega, Solmar Fleet, Cabo San Lucas fishing, Baja California Sur, Mexico:

Marlin -- both stripes and their bigger cousins, blues -- continued to provide lots of angling action in Cabo San Lucas fishing waters this past week, as Solmar boats averaged nearly one marlin per outing.

San Pedro, Calif. angler Paul Acosta accounted for one of those stripers, along with two dorado and three yellowfin tuna while fishing from the San Lucas V at the Gordo Banks.

Others who scored on striped marlin at Cabo San Lucas included Paul Farmer of Axle, Tex., Jenny Marvin of Orlando, Fla., and Allan Walker of Austin, Tex. Farmer took his marlin off the San Jose Bank aboard the El Torito; Marvin's fish fell for a live mackerel as bait while fishing the San Lucas IV at the 95 Bank, and Walker's came from the Las Destilladeras. It was taken from the Solmar III.

Five yellowfin to 35 pounds, plus three dorado were caught by John Franke and his 15-year-old granddaughter of West Hills, Calif. on the San Lucas IV. In fact, the youngster caught all but two of those fish, her dad boasted. Yellowfin provided all of the catch made by Chris Sinker of San Jose, Calif., who took four at the Faro Viejo on the Solmar II.

Kerry and Richard Snider of Ventura, Calif. joined in taking Cabo San Lucas two dorado and a single yellowfin at the Faro Viejo fishing from the San Lucas V.

Captain of the week honors went to Benito Peralto of the San Lucas V who, in seven outings, accounted for seven striped marlin, 16 dorado and 11 yellowfin tuna.

Total catch for the week by the Solmar fleet included 39 striped marlin of which 19 were released, two blue marlin, 36 yellowfin tuna, 11 skipjack and 24 dorado in 44 outings.
