DAILY FISH COUNTS FOR THE MEXICAN
COMMERCIAL FISHERMEN OF LA BOCANA

Aug. 29, 2005, Juanchy Aguilar, La Bocana, Baja California, Mexico commercial fishing counts:

Commercial fishing with five boats at La Bocana, Baja California, Mexico, this week with hand lines, we caught on Saturday: 68 yellowtail of 12 to 14 pounds, 30 yellowtail of 20 to 40 pounds, and 162 bonitos of 6 to 8 pounds.

On Sunday fishing with six commercial boats and hand lines, we caught: 126 yellowtail of 14 to 16 pounds, 40 yellowtail of 20 to 25 pounds, and 202 bonito of 6 to 8 pounds.

On Aug. 29, 2005, 10 boats caught: 262 yellowtail, 8 to 10 pounds; 3 dorado, 20 to 28 pounds, barracuda, and many bonito of 6 to 8 pounds.

On Aug. 30, 2005, 10 boats caught: 322 yellowtail, 10 to 12 pounds; 6 yellowfin tuna, 12 to 14 pounds; dorado, bonito, and barracuda.

On Sept. 1, 2005, 13 boats caught: 40 bonito, 6 to 8 pounds, 291 yellowtail, 8 to 10 pounds; one black sea bass, 121 pounds; 10 calico bass, 7 pounds; 6 dorado, 16 to 18 pounds; and 10 tuna, 12 to 14 pounds.

On Sept. 2, 2005, 21 boats caught: 610 yellowtail, 10 to 12 pounds, 402 bonito; 2 grouper, 28 to 30 pounds. Three commercial fishermen in my boat caught 98 yellowtail, 8 to 10 pounds.

We fished by hand, which is dangerous but very fast, using 80-pound line, 40-pound leader, and white-blue or chrome iron, at a depth of 32 to 40 feet.

We fished 6.3 miles out at Roca Ballena bank south of La Bocana, Baja California, in winds of 4 knots from the northwest, water visibility of 10 feet. It was a good weekend for Baja fishing.

We have two boats for Baja charter fishing, 22 feet long, with 60 h.p. motors, or you can bring your own boat, and we have easy launching for it. You can also sleep on your boat, because our dock in the laguna has no dangers or waves, and 26 feet of water depth. Inside this lagoon, there are also a lot of fish such as small grouper, halibut, cabrilla, etc.
