Santa Rosalia, Mexico:
Fishing Photo Of A True 53-Pound Yellowtail

June 17, 2004, Mike Kanzler, Isla San Marcos, Baja California Sur, Mexico, 53-Pound Yellowtail Photo:

I was reading the weekly MexFish.com report and saw the San Francisquito report.

Whenever I see or hear reports of 50-pound yellowtail (!), I have to check it out real closely, and many, many more times than not, never have seen a legitimate photo, usually only words.

Most people, 99 percent that fish here, never even catch 35-pound yellowtail. I take my long hours of hard fishing very personal, and when I see and read stuff like that it just rips me.

The guy said the fish where no longer than 25 pounders, just well fed. That is impossible.

Here's my best yellowtail. I caught it back in 1995. This fish weighed 53 pounds on a good scale. It's in the photo above the fish, Chatillon Brass, which is high grade. The fish also had a LENGTH of 60 inches! I'm 5 feet 8 inches.
