San Quintin, Mexico:
Routine Bottom Fish Limits For Don Eddie's Landing Boats

June 19, 2005, Sarai Garcia, Don Eddie's Landing, San Quintin, Baja California, Mexico fishing:

The June gloom continues at San Quintin and has been with us the whole week with marine layers in the mornings and some sun in the afternoons. For the past week San Quintin temperatures have been averaging highs of 68 and lows of 61 degrees, with winds of 10 knots northwest and winds of 18 knots in the afternoons. Waves averaged 2 feet and swells of 5 feet, northwest, with water temperatures of 59 to 60 degrees at San Martin Island, 180, and Ben's Rock. The color of the water is slightly green. The water temperature 30 miles offshore is up to 61 degrees with clear color.

The hotels in San Quintin have been full to capacity on the weekends and around 60 percent of occupancy during the week. Although we had great numbers of visitors the outings were not plentiful as we expected. Maybe for Father's Day most of the anglers stayed home with their children.

Those who did go fishing this week, approximately 35 outings total, in the area did get limits, catching reds, bocaccios, lingcods, sheepheads, and barracudas, using live bait for the lingcods, frozen shrimp for the rockcod and shiners and red and white feathers for the barracuda. Six halibut were caught inside the bay, weighing from 14 to 18 pounds, using live bait. Being that the outings were slow, Don Eddie gave a fishing trip to his employees, and they scored good catches of reds and lingcods.
