SOME CHARTER BOATS CANCELED IN WINDY WEATHER AT SAN QUINTIN
May 22, 2005, Pete Hillis, Pedro's Pangas, San Quintin, Baja sportfishing, Mexico:
We had 8 boats out fishing at San Quintin this week. Off and on winds caused some late cancellations. Mary Sargent brought her sons, Jesse Mullenix and Andrew McIntire, along with family friend John Trogden of Escondido. They fished with Captain Hector on the Rommy for limits of large rockcod, sandbass and more than enough large barracuda.
Jim Nolan from Buena Park and his son, James Nolan from Valencia and also fished with Captain Hector on the Rommy this week for limits of large rock cod, lingcod, and one 9-lb sheephead.
We send one boat to Socorro but the winds had churned the water and turned it dirty. The bass fishing turned sour. Most boats went north to the 240 and the 15 spots.
Water temperatures are still about 58 to 59 degrees. Air temperatures, with overcast in the mornings, are warming to mid-70's in the afternoons.
With the expectation of a good albacore season, anglers should consider making reservations well in advance. July and August weekends are filling quickly. Weekdays are no problem.
