San Quintin, Mexico:
Fishing With Capt. Gato Of Gato's Palapas

March 20, 2005, Ray Madrid, San Quintin, Baja fishing, Mexico:

We stayed at Don Eddie's at San Quintin and fished March 16-17. There were four of us fishing, myself from Long Beach, Bill Alexander from Rolling Heights, John Alexander from Whittier, and Kelly Miller from San Diego.

We fished on Bill's 22 foot Baja Bayrunner named "Hard Eight." We hired Capt. Gato from Gato's Palapas to be our local captain.

San Quintin fishing weather was sunny with little wind. Bait was very easy to make. The water temperature was 57 to 58 degrees.

The fishing was slow and we had to work for our limits. On the first day we fished the San Quintin 15 and 240 spots for 10 Lingcod's, one 20-pound yellowtail, Whitefish and Rockcod. In the afternoon we fished north of the San Quintin entrance for Sandbass and Reds.

On the second day we fished by San Martin Island for one large Barracuda and we tried Ben's Rock, Breakers, and other reefs. We got only one 15 pound squid as the squid were not around. We ended the fishing at San Quintin with limits of Reds, Whitefish and assorted bottom fish.
