San Quintin, Mexico:
Few Anglers And Only 4 Boats Fishing Out Of Pedro's Pangas

Jan. 9, 2005, Pete Hillis, Pedro's Pangas, San Quintin fishing, Baja California, Mexico:

We had only four boats fishing out of San Quintin this week. We had reservations for multiple fishing trips, but all were canceled due to the recent weather conditions in Southern California.

There were light winds on Friday and Saturday at San Quintin, but not enough to prevent the boats from fishing. The only problem this week came from the large number of seals in the local fishing waters. They were chasing the lines each time someone had a fish on.

Midweek, Cary Davis of Livermore, Calif., fished two days by himself on a panga with Capt. Hector. They caught limits of yellowtail on the 15 fathom spot. The largest yellowtail brought in at San Quintin was 33 pounds. On his second day, his final fishing score was Cary Davis, 6, and "San Quintin Seals," 4.

Also fishing with us were Young Lee, Dave Kim, and Tom Kim, from Orange County, Calif. They fished on the Rommy also with Capt. Hector for two days with limits of yellowtail and some nice lingcod at the 15 and 240 spots.

San Quintin air temperatures were down in the mornings and evenings to about 45 degrees. The highs were only about 65 degrees.
