CARNAVAL HOLIDAY CELEBRATIONS AND TOWN NEWS

Feb. 17, 2007, Title Company Bookstore, Catalina Meders, San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico:

Happy Mardi Gras! Hola everyone from San Felipe where the weather seems just right for the first parade of the Mexican holiday of Carnaval, which started last night.

San Felipe activities started early this morning with races and they will continue on throughout the day and into the night.

Right now the thermometer on the bookstore balcony says 79 degrees and the humidity is 28 percent, so San Felipe is very comfortable and people are enjoying strolling around in their spring clothes.

We have a cloudy sky this morning and the bay is almost white.

I am still getting mixed reports about the Baja 250 race being canceled, although an acquaintance tells me that he actually called SCORE International and whomever he spoke to there told him that the race is definitely a "go." I will keep trying to get an answer.

I had reason to visit Dr. Victor Abasolow this week, and San Felipe's most famous doctor told me that he has gotten an unusually large number of nose bleed cases this past week because of the very nasty head cold that is going around. People are blowing their noses for so long and so hard that they are actually rupturing blood vessels! Bring on the mega-doses of Vitamin C folks.

And the good news is that it's official: taking a nap in the middle of the day is good for your heart! Seems that Mexican people have naturally known that all along. Until next week, vaya con Dios from the bookstore by the bay.
