LACK OF ICE DELAYS MOTHERSHIP ERIK'S DEPARTURE

July 23, 2005, Dana Kerby, Baja Sportfishing, Inc., Erik, San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico Panga Mothership Fishing Report:

It rained off and on last night in San Felipe and is still raining today. The ice company in San Felipe didn't have any block ice. They couldn't get any from Mexicali and had to go to San Luis, Rio Colorado.

They were still waiting to get it on board the Erik at 10 a.m. Really a bummer. We have a full load this week, 24 anglers. Most are returning customers, so they understand that "stuff happens" in Mexico. The boat is ready to leave port, except for the ice.

For last week's fishing trip by the Erik, July 16-21, 2005, the report will appear as if there weren't as many fish this week, and that is due to VERY windy weather and the fact that the passengers were unable to fish for almost two-and-a-half days. Very heavy seas. Unseasonable at this time of year. This was like late August weather.

But thanks to the Golden Reef, the 15 people on board did catch quite a few fish. There were more people scheduled to go on this fishing trip, but last-minute cancellations caused there to be a smaller group.

If anyone wants to be put on a "short notice" list for fishing trips on the Erik please contact us.

Places visited on this fishing trip out of San Felipe: Vibora, Cardonosa, Punta Diablo, Puerto Refugio, Punta Final and the Golden Reef. The catch was as follows: Cabrilla 82; yellowtail 97; pargo 28; white seabass 8; one grouper of 55 lb.; and one baqueta (leatherback grouper) 33 lbs.
