MACKEREL CAUGHT BY PUNTA BUFEO ANGLER

Jan. 30, 2005, John Tillander, Punta Bufeo, San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico Fishing Report:

I spent the week at our place on Punta Bufeo, and in spite of the rain Las Vegas had every day, we had perfect fishing weather. The daytime temperatures in the low 70s and nighttime in the low 60s.

The sea surface water temperature was 62 degrees, with almost no wind. On Friday, the sea was absolutely flat for fishing at Punta Bufeo.

We caught lots of spotted bay bass and barracuda, and on Friday we went out fishing at the sea mount northwest of Isla San Luis and caught some nice goldeneye or goldspotted bass in about 90 feet of water. We caught the spotted bay bass and barracuda by trolling deep in 30 feet of water, and we caught the goldeneye by bouncing jigs off the bottom. The goldeneye was one of the larger ones that I have caught while fishing at Punta Bufeo. We also caught a mackerel, a bit unusual. It's the first one we have caught and even the Mexicans at Punta Bufeo were surprised.
