CLEAR BLUE FISHING WATER IN THE LOW-80S

June 20, 2004, Capt. Kurt Hjort, Esperanza Sportfishing, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico Fishing Report:

Here in Puerto Vallarta we are seeing the fishing really start to pick up as the blue water has made a push close to shore and along with that, the fish. Offshore we have water in the low 80s and a number of both blue and a few black marlin have been hooked, with only a few landed this week. Not much releasing going on with the Puerto Vallarta charter boats, but remember, the clients can make the difference and let the crew know that these fish should be put back when possible. Lots of sails on tap along with an increase in the dorados in both numbers and size offshore. Closer in, 5-10 miles from Puerto Vallarta we are also seeing some sails, small dorados, and school yellowfin to 20lbs. Roosterfish, jack cravelle and snappers can be found on any of the reef areas we are blessed with here and the roosters have been averaging 20-40lbs and all of these should please be released!

Puerto Vallarta really is a virtual unknown on the Mexico fishing scene and is just starting to come into it's own. I currently am running my 26ft super panga "Esperanza" and am negotiating right now to have a 25ft Grady-White for the upcoming season.
