PANGA FISHING TRIP OUT OF MULEGE'S HOTEL QUESTA REAL

July 9, 2005, Mark Baker, Mulege, Mexico Fishing Trip Report:

When we arrived in Mulege we stayed at the Hotel Questa Real with our hosts Ken and Chris Wright. We made arrangements with them prior to leaving home on the internet. Very nice place and very nice people. They set us up with a panga for the next morning which was the 2nd of July for 150 bucks and we fished out on the back side of Punta Conception about 15 miles out and found the water temperature to be a little cool around 78 degrees, I would guess.

No dorado were to be found anywhere! No sargasso paddies, no nada. We trolled all day long with various jet heads and feathers and live bait. We did catch a few big skipjack tuna to about 20 pounds, and a few bonita at about 5 pounds. We saw many sailfish in the area but they didn't seem to be hungry. We casted live bait at them, but no takers. We then decided to head back to Loreto to fish and try our luck there.
