FEW ANGLERS FISHING OUT OF MARINA EL CID

Sept. 8, 2006, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Mazatlan, Mexico:

Sportfishing boats are still averaging billfish catches are at 50 percent or above even through this full moon period, but as in Cabo San Lucas, the angler activity was terribly slow for the Mazatlan area and only 13 offshore fishing days were reported by Aries Fleet.

No inshore super pangas fished during this period.

Reporting for 13 offshore fishing days Aries Fleet at Marina el Cid reflected a catch of 2 blue marlin in the 250 pound range, 5 sailfish released, 2 dorado, 5 yellowfin tuna and 8 skipjack released.

Mazatlan weather had mixed sun and clouds, and air temperatures from 71 degree nights to 89 degree daytime highs. Sea conditions were generally, back to normal and fairly calm, with light surface winds, and water temps from 84 to 86 degrees.

The best offshore fishing was west to southwest of the Marina El Cid, 22 to 29 miles out. Rigged trolling baits worked best for the billfish.
