EASY FISHING LIMITS CAUGHT ON RED SNAPPER AND BASS

Dec. 16, 2005, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Mazatlan, Mexico Sportfishing Report:

Mazatlan sportfishing boats are still averaging a billfish per fished day for the offshore waters, with a report of 15 stripers, 1 sailfish and 3 dorado for 14 fishing days. The inshore action remains as good as it gets with easy limits on sierra, everyday, and as many as you wish to catch and release.

Mazatlan bottom fishing is still excellent and easy limits on red snapper and sea bass have been the daily norm. Mazatlan weather had 50 degree nights to 81 daytime highs, mostly sunny and clear, water 70 degrees inshore to 73 offshore, calm, with charter fishing boats scattered about from the Southwest out to the west, 23-26 miles.

Rigged baits were best for the billfish. Rapalas, Krocodile's, anything in white or green or chrome, all worked well for the sierra. It was easy catching for fly fishing anglers with green-white streamers.
