OFFSHORE BOATS ARE FISHING ABOUT 24 TO 28 MILES OUT

Sept. 2, 2005, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Mazatlan, Mexico Fishing Report:

The Mazatlan sportfishing area is slow on anglers, but hot on fishing and the catching is even better.

The Aries Fleet at Mazatlan, reporting in for 16 days fished, reflected a near 2 billfish per boat-day catch ratio that included a varied catch of 4 blue marlin, 27 sailfish, and b'zillions of dorado, with easy limit fishing with more than 100 dorado released.

Mazatlan fishing weather was mostly cloudy, with temperatures from 74 degree nights to 90 daytime high's. Sea conditions were good this week, with fishing water temperatures from a stable 84-85 degrees in all locations.

The best fishing area at Mazatlan was 24-28 miles southwest of the marina for the billfish and the shark buoys for the dorado. Mazatlan billfish were mostly taken on rigged trolling baits and the dorado didn't much care what went in the water. If it splashed the surface, they were on it like a herd of piranhas.
