SPORTFISHING BOAT ARIES II SCORES A DOUBLE ON BLUE MARLIN

July 29, 2005, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Mazatlan, Mexico Fishing Report:

The "Aries II" accounted for both blue marlin taken this week, both blue marlin on the same day, July 27th, by Angler Russ Lovell, San Luis Obispo, Calif. The largest fish checked in at 350 pounds and a smaller blue and a sailfish was released. The catching seemed to be a "right place-right time" situation as the "Aries VIII" had a 3 sailfish day on 7/26, with the two boats accounting for 6 of the 14 billfish for the week. Total counts reported for 14 Mazatlan fishing days reflected 7 sailfish, 2 blue marlin and 142 dorado. The dorado are within easy range of the super pangas and offer some superb light tackle action.

The Mazatlan vacation fishing area on Mexico's Pacific Ocean coast was partly cloudy, warm, temperatures 77 nights to 91 daytime highs. Seas were at 84-86 degrees and stable, with light breezes, mostly calm

Dorado were at the shark buoys and the billfish 24-28 miles southwest of the Marina El Cid. Most of the sails were taken on rigged baits, dorado were literally taken on everything that was thrown and moved through the water.
