INSHORE SPORTFISHING SUPER PANGAS DO WELL ON MIXED SPECIES

Feb. 11, 2005, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Mazatlan, Mexico Fishing Report:

Although seeming to slow up a little bit, Mazatlan billfish action for stripers still remains very good for most of the sportfishing boats and still averaging about a billfish per boat day fished. There appears to be some changing sea water temperatures around Mazatlan, probably subsurface, determined by the showing of the mako sharks throughout the area.

Inshore fishing at Mazatlan continues to be very good, especially for bottom fish, with the super pangas producing good catches on pargos, palometos, cochitos and mojarras. Overall catches reflected 5 sailfish released, 29 stripers, (17 released) 19 dorado (mahi-mahi), 19 yellowfin tuna and 6 mako shark for the bluewater action.

Mazatlan Climate: 57 degree nights to 88 degree days, mostly cloudy thru Wednesday, then scattered rain.

Sea Conditions: Surface sea temperatures at 73-75 degrees, mostly calm

Best Mazatlan Fishing area: 24-29 miles southwest of the Marina El Cid.

Best Lure/Bait: The rigged baits are working very well for the billfish.
