SLOW FISHING, SOME SKUNKED DAYS FOR FISHING BOATS

Feb. 4, 2004, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Mazatlan, Mexico Fishing Report:

Another area battered by the full moon and for the first time in months, we have some skunked days to report for the 25 individual Mazatlan fishing days. Billfish counts fell down this past week, albeit, the "Aries III" did report a 4-billfish day, (1 sailfish release, 2 stripers released and 1 caught) making him the high boat for the week. Overall fishing counts for the 25 days offshore reflected 10 stripers, (6 released) 7 sailfish, (6 released) 13 yellowfin tuna, 8 dorado (mahi-mahi) and 1 mako shark. Mazatlan inshore fishing action continued to be fair, especially for the red snapper, pompano and seabass.

Mazatlan Climate: Mostly cloudy, temps from a cool 54 degrees nights to 89 degrees, daytime high.

Sea Conditions: 72 degrees inshore to 74 degrees offshore, mostly calm conditions prevailed.

Best Mazatlan Fishing Area: Continues at about 25 miles southwest of the Mexican coast at Marina El Cid.
