OFFSHORE FISHING BOATS CATCHING MOSTLY TUNA

Dec. 10, 2004, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Mazatlan, Mexico Fishing Report:

The yellowfin tuna bite provided the bulk of the Mazatlan sportfishing action this week, with Mazatlan boats averaging about 8 per fishing day, as the billfish action goes on the decline.

Mazatlan charter boats fished far and wide in search of the billfish, only to find more tuna. Overall catches for 14 Mazatlan fishing days reflected 1 blue marlin, (approximately 250 lbs.), 2 stripers, and 116 yellowfin tuna. The tuna were school fish, 15-25 lb. ranges.

Mazatlan Climate: Sunny & clear skies, 57 nights to 90 daytime highs

Mazatlan Sea Conditions: Excellent conditions, temps at 83 and stable

Best Mazatlan Fishing Area: 24-28 miles southwest of the Marina El Cid

Best Lure/Bait: The tuna bit best on cedar plugs and petrolero's and most of the darker colored feathers.
