FAIR FLY FISHING ACTION AT THE SAN CARLOS BRIDGE

June 3, 2006, Gary Graham, Baja On The Fly, San Carlos, Magdalena Bay, Baja California, Mexico, fly fishing update:

In the San Carlos sport fishing area, several Magdalena Bay anglers reported fair fly fishing near the bridge at the entrance to town. Sport fishing catches included small grouper, spotted bay bass and a few smaller corvina at slack tide. Enrique Soto of San Carlos reported a few yellowtails out at the entrada first thing in the morning and as the day wore on some corvina and bonito under the bird schools. The shallows off the sandy beaches at Belcher's Point on the west side of the bay produced plenty of the smaller halibut.

Fly fishing water temperatures in the Magdalena Bay area of Baja California continue to creep up slowly on the outside. Windy conditions continued to hamper the local fishing boats from doing much exploring offshore. Inside the Magdalena Bay esteros, corvina, leopard grouper, there were a few small snook and enough mystery bites to keep things interesting. Down in the Devil’s Curve mangrove channels, tight to the west side of the channel there were a few palometa amarilla to be found.

Magdalena Bay water temperatures, 61-66 degrees; air temperature, 65-77 degrees; conditions clear.
