BAJA FISHING TRIP WITH CAPT. CONRAD

Nov. 14, 2004, Richard Bartow, Erendira, Baja California, Mexico:

Nov. 10-12, I went down to Erendira. Drove down Wednesday night. A lot of traffic at the border around 5 p.m. The five-hour drive took about seven hours. We fished with Capt. Conrad, with my father-in-law Ernie Barreras, my 11 year old son Richard Jr., all from Carson, Calif. Conrad has two small cabins he rents out $35 a night, rustic, bathroom, kitchen, bunks.

Erendira fishing weather was tough, windy, and bumpy. We still got some big reds and a few good-sized lingcod, and the regular assortment of rockfish. There was plenty of bonito to be had just by trolling a Rapala. We opted for the bottom stuff. We used all sort of plastics with stripped squid. We fished in 180 feet going shallower as the wind kicked up ending up in 110 feet of water. We fished out of Erendira Thursday all day, and half a day Friday. We had about 8-10 nice bags of fillets. Overall, pretty good considering the conditions.
