ERENDIRA BOATS FISHING THE BOTTOM WITH SCAMPIS

Nov. 1-7, 2004, Fernando Castro, Castro's Camp, Baja California, Mexico:

This week, we had 11 boats fishing. On Monday we had a little Santa Ana wind. Tuesday and Wednesday Castro's Camp had good weather, but Thursday we had northeast winds by noon. Since Friday, Castro's Camp has had good weather again. Because rain was forecast for the weekend, we had to cancel a group of 20 people for Saturday, but today on Sunday seven boats went out.

The water temperature was 57 degrees two miles from the coast, and the water color was clear blue. Right now, we are getting lots and lots of bottom fish. During the week we caught a lot of rockcod, lingcod, whitefish, cabrilla, bonita, and barracuda. For the rockcod, lingcod and other bottom fish, we used Scampis of different colors, and for bonita and barracuda we used all kinds of lures. The barracuda and bonita were caught 60 to 80 feet deep and the rockcod 140 to 180 feet deep, 7 miles from the coast.
