MARINA PUERTO SALINA TOURNAMENTS

Aug. 28, 2006, Julio D'Acosta, Marina Puerto Salina, Baja California, Mexico:

This past Saturday, August 26th, Marina Puerto Salina held it's 1st annual Kayak Sport Fishing Tournament, and more than 30 participants came from Southern California, Tecate, Tijuana, Ensenada and Rosarito. Acting as judge for the event was John Campbell, who certified that each and every fish presented was in the right condition for the event's rules. We also we had the presence of our state's Secretary of Tourism C. Héctor Rosas Rodea, as well as Capt. Ramiro Ramírez Suastegui representing the Mexican Armada.

We had splendid weather at Marina Puerto Salina, and a great atmosphere, but still this event's fish weren't as big as in past tournaments.

Participants and family bonded together and sat down together for the event's banquet and trophy presentation, having Marina Puerto Salina's delicious paella, as well as other tasty treats.

The tournament's winners were:

Bottom Fish: First Place, Alfonso Olvera and son Jorge who caught a 2.4 kilogram cabrilla. Second Place, John Winn with another cabrilla weighing in at 1.950 kilograms. Third Place, José González with a 1.290 kilogram cabrilla.

Surface Fish: First Place, Antonio Lara with a bonita weighing just 1.5 kilograms. Second Place, Rocky Detzel with a 0.9 kilogram bonita. Third Place was given to 6-year-old Anthony Scott because he was the event's youngest competitor and for the capture of a 0.3 kilogram bonita.

As always everybody went home with either a trophy, some prize from the tournament raffle, or a souvenir from Marina Puerto Salina.

Julio D'Acosta, Marina Puerto Salina's Harbor Master, also gave a cordial invitation to all to participate in our 2nd Summer Sport Fishing Tournament this next September 23rd, and also our 2nd Summer Kayak Sport Fishing Tournament which is going to take place on October 21.
