GOOD MIXED SPECIES OFFSHORE RUNS BY MATADOR SPORTFISHING

July 16, 2006, Rowena Argonza, Matador Sportfishing, Four good trips for yellowtail, tuna, dorado, and lots of bottom fish:

On July 12, Wednesday, on a tuna trip skippered by Capt. Emerald Argonza, the Matador charter boat out of Marina Coral fished with 4 anglers from Chino Hills, California. The total fish count was: 12 yellowtail, 1 bluefin tuna. We fished the Ensenada 238 spot. All fish were taken on flylined sardines. Ensenada fishing area water temperature is 67 degrees. All fish were caught from kelp beds.

Fishing on July 13, Thursday, on a tuna trip skippered by Capt. Argonza the Matador went out of Marina Coral with 5 anglers and fished the Ensenada offshore 450 area. We finished the day with 18 yellowtail, 1 dorado, and 10 bonito. All fish were caught on flylined sardines, the bonito with trolling feathers.

Fishing on July 14, the Matador went out with 5 passengers and fished the Ensenada 450 and 238 spots. We boated 1 yellowtail and 14 bonito. The water temperature was 66.6 degrees with very rough ocean conditions

On July 15, the Matador fished with 4 anglers. We finished the day with 3 yellowfin tuna up to 25 pounds, 1 dorado, 13 red snappers, 2 Johnny bass, 6 lingcod with one weighing 30 pounds, 1 sheephead, 1 yellowtail, and 10 bonito. We fished 6 miles south of the 450 spot, the Peanut Bank, Punta San Jose, and the Soledad Reef. The yellowfin tuna, yellowtail and bonito were caught trolling, and the dorado on live bait under kelp.
