HALF-DAY FISHING TRIP BY THE CHARTER BOAT MATADOR

Dec. 30, 2005, Emerald Argonza, Matador Sportfishing, Baja California, Ensenada, Mexico:

Dr. Noel Israel and family from Georgia went fishing out of Ensenada on the Matador on the 27th of this month for a half-day trip out of Coral Marina. We only boated a total of 14 red snapper up to 3 pounds. This was due to a very rough ocean and really strong current. Holding the boat in position was a real challenge for me and co-captain David Silva. We were fishing the north side of the island early in the morning and only hooked up a couple of reds. We then decided to work all the spots in front of the island to the south end and that's when we managed to land 12 more red snappers. All fish were caught using squid strips on 3 hook leaders. Ensenada fishing water temperature was 57 degrees everywhere and 15 foot swells were the norm this day, but with 30-40 foot swells on the north side. This is really good for Ensenada surfers which were plentiful all week long. There were also few boats from Ensenada that braved the day but also did poorly fishing. There were a lot of markers but fish were just not biting.
