ENSENADA FISHING TRIP ABOARD THE 23-FOOT MEXICAN CHARTER PANGA EL DORADO

March 28, 2005, Joe Ludka, Ensenada, Mexico Fishing Trip Report:

I (Fish Taco Joe), my son Little Joe, and friend Jon Hocker from Long Beach fished at Ensenada on Tuesday, March 28th, with Capt. Memo on his 23 foot panga, the El Dorado. We went fishing about 3 miles north of Ensenada's Isla Todos Santos, targeting bottom fish. The majority of fish caught were Red Snapper, with a couple each of Sculpin, White Fish, Johnny Bass, and Sheephead going in the sacks. Live bait was not available at Ensenada, so we brought frozen shrimp (31-40ct w/head on) and octopus from home, with the shrimp being the hot ticket.

On the way back into port of Ensenada, we slow trolled Rapalas and Mexican Flags and caught a couple of nice size Bonito. We had a great time and were really happy with our varied assortment of fish. This was a great way to celebrate Little Joe’s 18th birthday. Ensenada is going to be really hopping in another month or so and we’ll be back. The following morning we stopped at the Fish/Black Market, bought and brought home 6 kilos of clams for $11, one kilo each of Abalone and Jumbo Shrimp for $15 per kilo.
