SAN DIEGO BAY FISHING WITH REBEL LURES

Jan. 31, 2005, Jose Lopez, San Diego Bay, California:

Went out fishing on the family 18-foot Klamath at about 6:30 with 3 of my cousins, Omar Covarrubias, German Castillo and Fernando Lopez, launching at San Diego Bay's Shelter Island into beautiful bay weather.

They dropped me off and hit up Jack in the Box for breakfast, so I rigged up for a couple drifts right in front of the launch ramp while I waited. Five minutes of fishing and nice 2-pound Sandie! This was gonna be a good day!

I picked the guys up and put down a breakfast sandwich, and we did some more drift fishing, picking up 2 more sandbass.

The guys wanted to pull on some bonies, so we decided to hit Point Loma at the Green Tanks. I was feeling pretty bad and ready to start a chum line, so after trolling a Rebel and a Rapala for about 10 minutes we cruised back into San Diego Bay.

I tried some new spots for nothing. So being slack tide we cruised the bay, downtown, the bridge. Saw a kayaker in a yellow Fish N Dive pullin' on something but I didn't recognize him so we let him do his thing. Finally, it felt like the tide was moving, and we did some more drifts, and pulled on a few more. All fish sandies and 1 spotted bay bass, all on plastic. We kept 6 Sandbass for the Atkins diet. I'm just glad to get on the water and pull on some fishies.
